The Community Volunteer Center's (CVC) role is to recruit volunteers from the community and place them in organizations that utilize volunteers to fulfill their mission. In order for the CVC to place volunteers within your organization, we need to know what volunteer opportunities are available within your agency.

1800volunteer.org is the newest and most effective way to post volunteer opportunties. Contact the CVC to obtain your username and password and set up a time to receive training on the program.  Or you may create your a new account.

One of the four services a volunteer center strives to offer is to build the capacity for effective local volunteering.  In order to do so, we've started a volunteer management training series compiled of six courses designed by the Points of Light Foundation:  Understanding Volunteers, Planning Your Volunteer Program, Recruiting and Placing Volunteers, Orienting and Training Volunteers, Supervising Volunteers, and Evaluating Your Volunteer Program.

Please email us if you would like to be notified about the next workshop.

National Volunteer Week takes place April 15-21, 2007 to recognize volunteers as America's most valuable assests and call the public's attention toall that they do to improve our communities. The 2007 theme is "Inspire by Example" because it truly reflects the power volunteers have to inspire the people they help and to inspire others to serve.

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, the CVC partnered with Leigh Mall to host a community service fair - Inspire by Example: Volunteer on Saturday, April 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at center court and Leigh Mall. Participating agencies include American Red Cross, Hearts After School Tutoring Program, Council of Community Organizations, Baptist Memorial Hospice - Golden Traingle, Lowndes County Emergency Managment Agency, Lowndes County 4-H, Dial-a-Bus, CONTACT Helpline, United Way of Lowndes County, and the CVC
